In which my belly quits pdXercise and decides to start her own blog

Do you know what the Internet needs more of? Pale bellies! The other day, my very own belly decided to grace the Internet as a tribute to the online belly dance class that I took with Henna, an instructor based in Oregon.

This weekend, I met Henna in person and took my first in-real-life belly dance class, so my belly has decided to make another appearance. In fact, at this rate, she has a mind of her own. Continue reading

It’s the little things that count…and also kick your booty

As a 5’1″ individual, it may come as a shock to everyone that I tend to embrace the big things over the small (and by shock I mean not at all). I like tall shoes. I talk loudly. I can spill a glass of water across the table with one giant, spastic lift of my fork.

So, the thought of purposely choosing small, isolated movements as exercise over big jumping jacks and long runs was something that never occurred to me until I took a Barre3 class.  Continue reading

Pole dancing with even more strangers

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, you know that I recently pole danced with strangers and loved it. So, I went back to pole dance with even more strangers! This time to a different studio in town called The Pole Palace.

Pole Palace is in N Portland and has been running some sweet Yelp deals so I took advantage of their offer and attended my first pole class done on a spinning pole. Continue reading

Dancing with 2-year-olds and loving it

This weekend, BodyVox hosted their annual Free Dance Day. As the terribly coordinated human being that I am, I obviously decided that I should go check out their studio, but bring my daughter to mask said terrible-coordinatedness. Good parenting is knowing when to use your child’s cuteness to your advantage.

Just kidding, it was an excuse to buy lots of tutus and dance shoes for my kid! Continue reading

Barre3 in the park like a boss

Yesterday marked 2 important milestones for me– I accomplished my first-ever Barre class. And, I accomplished my first-ever Barre class outside. barre3pdxercise copy

To celebrate their 5 year anniversary, Barre3 offered a free class to the public this weekend. The class took place in The Fields park in the Pearl District and thankfully Portland got the memo and decided to put on the most beautiful sun-fest for everyone that attended. Continue reading

Hey uncoordinated lady: belly dance!

Last week, you guys voted on what I should try next and belly dancing won. As a result, I will now share with the Internet my very pale belly. You’re welcome.

You may notice that the background of this studio looks very similar to a living room and that is because it actually is my living room. Not only did I try belly dancing, I tried belly dancing via a live online class. Continue reading

Nightclub. ZUMBA. Exists. Mind = blown.

zumbapdxercise3

Since starting pdXercise, people who have taken some form of dance in the past have recommended that I, no-dance-ever-Agatha, try ZUMBA. They’ve assured me that it doesn’t matter that I’m choreography-phobic… or that I’m highly uncoordinated… or that I trip while walking on flat surfaces. But, for reasons unknown, I’ve been too intimated to try ZUMBA until now thanks to PulsePDX.
